The Senior Girls

    The year started very rushed because we weren't in a league we didn't have any resources or even gym time.  So we started really with nothing and came through to the end with our heads held high.  The players were tremendous.  They always came to practice and constantly improved.   I have never seen a team gel as quickly as they did.  I think this year the had a reason to win.  To prove everyone wrong. One of the most difficult obstacles that we had as a team was not within our team at all but rather the outside forces but hey overcame those with grace and dignity.  

    We had several friendly games in October and November and played teams like Delia School of Canada, Hong Kong International School,  Canadian International, All Saints, Holm Glad, and others.  We lost every game and it was hard to get the girls motivated near the end of November.  That was to change.

    Good news came along soon with our admittance into the International School League.  The team was excited and nervous.  We all knew that the other teams would be tough and we were stepping it up a notch.  However, we approached the season with hard work and practicing almost everyday in January.

    The season started in early February and we were all anxious to play.  Our first game was a disappointment because that team forfeited the game.  So we had to wait one more week.   Then we had to play Delia School of Canada our first game the problem was that we had lost to them on numerous occasions in our pre-season.  In the end we did loose but we were close.  We did improve.  The girls could feel it they could see that we were getting close.  Eventually DSC, being the champion team that it is, pulled it together and closed us out.  But we had won one a small battle.

    The next game we played Australian International and won 35-10.  We came out hard at the first and they never were close.  Our first convincing win.  Then we played CAIS and they were a team of comparable talent.  We came out out strong at first but they worked their way back into the game.  After half time our team came was determined and shut them down defensively and won 39-24.  This is also the game that the South China Young Post interviewed us.  We were finally coming together. 

    Then we played ICS.  We didn't know anything about them but we knew they has a formidable post game.  We slowed the game down in the first half and tired out their defense with passing.  Then in the second half our seconds came in and gave ours starters a break.  When our starters came back in the game was won.  The final score was 27-13.

    We play American International School twice and lost both times.  The first game was a difficult one and we were not reacting well to their point guard.  We got beat solidly.  The next game we played them again and lost a heartbreaker19-17.  We had a chance to win the game at the foul line but couldn't put it together.  But we knew we could play with the best.

    Our next game against YCIS we played hard in the first half but couldn't find the basket.  Second half we put it together both defensively and offensive and shut them down but still lost 28-14.

Then we went into the playoffs ranked third.  Our first game in the tournament we squeaked by CAIS 21-20 but we knew that we didn't play as good as we could have.  Our next game we played DSC and we met a very determined team.  The beat us solidly 31-7.  We knew it would be tough to get into the finals but we gave it our all in the next game but lost a heartbreaker to team we beat solidly before 18-10.

    So we came out in forth place but in our hearts were closer.  However, what we were most excited about was the fact that we were even there.  No matter what place we came in we had won already.

    I like were we stand now.  We have continued to practice and each player has found her niche.  We have a strong front court and some good role players to fill in.  We have s summer camp with some great experienced coaches coming in to help.  The school year will be finished with a trip to China for two games.
