Leeana Wong Our Senior Team Captain
At
first when I heard that our school was going to have a Girl’s basketball team,
I was extremely happy because I love and enjoy playing basketball. It was a
great chance for me to improve my skills and meet new friends. I am really glad
that the players on our team are nice and we respect each other. At
first I was really worried whether our basketball program would really succeed.
Now, however I am sure that I don’t have to worry anymore because I know that
we can really do it! I mean, this is like our very first year and we already won
4th place in the Hong Kong International School League. Although 4th
wasn’t the best, it’s a very good beginning for all of us. I believe that
our team can do much better in the next tournament because we practice hard. The
interview of the South China Morning Post gave us a great chance to voice
our feelings. We want everyone to know that our school is here and here to stay. That interview meant so much to us. Boys don’t look down on us anymore.
I don’t think things will be like they were at first. Months ago, we were
common normal students but now we are the representatives of our school. And
that is not common or normal at all! In
the future I believe that we will have good results, also that there will be
more chances for us to prove ourselves to those who still don’t think that we
are still not good enough to play in a competitive league.
Our future is very bright because we all practice and are enthusiastic
about our team. This
July we are traveling to China to play two games. This is a big chance for us to prove ourselves and see how we
compare to mainland teams. I hope
that next year we will be able to travel overseas and play really good teams. Coach
Bogart is great. He has spent so
much time and effort with us. He
has tried his best to get new equipment for our program.
It is true that if it weren’t for Coach Bogart there wouldn’t be a
girl’s basketball team, we wouldn’t have had the chance to play and be
interviewed in The South China Post. So
Coach is the person who I really appreciate and need to thank. I don’t know how to tell him this except through my hard
work, my play on the floor, and improving every game. My
overall opinion is that we could do much better. I believe that none of us would give up the opportunity to
play basketball till the day we leave this school and there’s no chance for us
to touch the ball anymore. Thanks
Coach, Mr. Tsui our Principal and all the players and people who have supported
us. |
